Day 1: Arrival in Kigali – Transfer to Nyungwe National Park

Upon arrival in Kigali, your guide will greet you and begin the scenic drive southwest toward Nyungwe National Park. Along the way, pass through rolling hills, tea plantations, and rural villages that showcase Rwanda’s natural charm. Stop in Butare for a cultural visit to the King’s Palace Museum or the Ethnographic Museum, depending on time. Arrive in Nyungwe by late afternoon and check in at your lodge nestled in the forest. Enjoy dinner and an early night in preparation for the canopy walk adventure ahead.

Day 2: Nyungwe Forest Canopy Walk & Nature Trails

After breakfast, head to the Uwinka Visitor Center for a guided canopy walk. Suspended 50 meters above the forest floor, the canopy walkway provides thrilling views of the forest, primates, and birdlife. The walk is part of a longer guided trail, which immerses you in the biodiversity of this ancient rainforest. After lunch at your lodge, enjoy an afternoon guided forest walk on the Igishigishigi or Umuyove Trail to discover orchids, waterfalls, and bird species. Return to your lodge for a relaxed evening surrounded by nature.

Day 3: Drive to Volcanoes Region – Optional Cultural Visit

After breakfast, depart for Musanze, home to Volcanoes National Park and the Twin Lakes. The drive takes you north along Lake Kivu’s edge, offering breathtaking views of the water and distant islands. Arrive in the late afternoon and check in to your lodge near the Twin Lakes. Depending on your arrival time and interest, you may visit the Iby’Iwacu Cultural Village for a traditional music and dance performance or take a short walk to the lakeside.

Day 4: Canoeing on the Twin Lakes of Burera & Ruhondo

Start your day with a guided canoeing experience on the tranquil waters of Lake Burera and Lake Ruhondo. Paddle through scenic channels between the lakes, taking in views of the Virunga volcanoes and nearby villages. Encounter local fishermen and observe daily life along the shores. After lunch, enjoy time at leisure—go for a walk, visit a local community, or relax at your lodge with panoramic lake views. Overnight near the lakes.

Day 5: Return to Kigali – City Highlights (Optional)

Enjoy a relaxed breakfast before beginning your return drive to Kigali. If time allows, stop at the Kigali Genocide Memorial or visit local art galleries and markets. You’ll be dropped off at your hotel or Kigali International Airport depending on your onward travel arrangements. End of tour.
