3 Days Gorilla & Golden Monkey Trekking in Volcanoes

Upon arrival at Kigali International Airport or from your hotel in the city, your guide will welcome you and brief you about the journey ahead. After a short city drive through Kigali’s clean and vibrant streets, you’ll head north towards Musanze, the gateway to Volcanoes National Park. Enjoy scenic views of Rwanda’s lush hills and rural life along the way. Depending on your arrival time, you may stop by the Iby’Iwacu Cultural Village for a community visit or relax at your lodge preparing for the gorilla trek. Overnight in Musanze.

After an early breakfast, head to the park headquarters for a briefing before starting your once-in-a-lifetime gorilla trek. You’ll be assigned a specific gorilla family and set off with experienced trackers through the misty rainforest. The trek may take anywhere from 1 to 5 hours depending on the location of the gorillas. Once found, you will spend one magical hour observing them in their natural environment—watching the silverback’s dominance, mothers caring for their young, and juveniles playing in the vines. Return to your lodge for lunch and relaxation. In the afternoon, enjoy optional activities such as a visit to Twin Lakes Burera and Ruhondo or a cultural tour. Overnight in Musanze.

Start the day with a light breakfast before heading back into the park for a golden monkey trek. These endangered primates are active and curious, often descending from the trees to play and forage in the bamboo forest. The experience is lighter than gorilla trekking but equally rewarding. After the trek, return to your lodge to freshen up and begin the drive back to Kigali. Depending on your schedule, you may stop at the Kigali Genocide Memorial or local craft markets for souvenirs before being dropped off at the airport or hotel. End of tour
