Day 1: Arrival in Kigali – Introduction to Rwanda’s Capital

Arrive at Kigali International Airport and meet your guide. Spend the day exploring Kigali’s cultural highlights, including the Kigali Genocide Memorial, where you’ll gain insight into Rwanda’s history of resilience. Visit the Inema Arts Center to admire contemporary Rwandan art, and wander through Kimironko Market to experience local life firsthand. Enjoy dinner at a local restaurant and overnight in Kigali.

Day 2: Kigali to Nyanza – Royal Palace & Traditional Culture

After breakfast, drive south to Nyanza, the historic seat of Rwandan royalty. Tour the King’s Palace Museum to see the unique traditional thatched palace and the majestic Inyambo royal cows. Learn about the customs and history of the Rwandan monarchy. Continue to Butare (Huye), home of the renowned Ethnographic Museum, where you’ll explore extensive collections of Rwandan artifacts, traditional crafts, and music. Overnight in Butare.

Day 3: Butare & Community Visit – Artisans & Traditions

Spend the morning visiting a local community project or cooperative specializing in traditional crafts such as basket weaving, pottery. Engage with artisans and learn about their craft techniques. Later, visit the University of Rwanda’s art department or local cultural centers for workshops or performances. Overnight in Butare.

Day 4: Butare to Nyungwe – Forest & Culture

After breakfast, transfer to Nyungwe Forest National Park region, stopping at tea plantations and small villages along the way. Upon arrival, visit local communities involved in eco-tourism or cultural tourism initiatives. Enjoy an optional evening traditional dance performance or storytelling session at your lodge. Overnight near Nyungwe.

Day 5: Nyungwe Forest – Nature Walk & Return to Kigali

Start the day with a guided nature walk, focusing on the cultural relationship between local people and the forest, including medicinal plants and spiritual beliefs. Afterward, drive back to Kigali for your onward journey or flight.
